Director Of Operations:
personnel, policies and delivery of services

Executive Assistant:
Under the direction of the CEO, coordinate, meetings, travel, accommodations, meals for Council and CEO. Puts together agenda packages and arrange delegate times for bi-monthly Council Meetings. Takes minutes for Council, Band and Special meetings.

Maintain a filing system for all meeting minutes and correspondence. Arrange special trips within office (eg Broken Group trip last summer). Write replies to membership correspondence and any other correspondence given by CEO. Collect, log, distribute mail and faxes in the office. Puts out a bi-monthly bulletin for the community. Responsible for the bookings of all facilities within our tribe. The direct contact for our security company and am a call-out for alarms. Maintain the supplies for our janitorial staff. Anything else, as directed by CEO.

Human Services Director:
Oversees all of the Human Service Staff (Family Support, Social Development/Long Term Care Workers/Home Care Providers, Youth Worker, Recreation Worker, Health Clerk) who work directly and indirectly with clients of Tseshaht.

Family Support Worker:
This program offers support, in many forms, to Tseshaht families. These include:
• Provides advocacy with outside organizations
• Works with and builds bridges with outside organizations
• Walk in assistance to community members in need of help
• Giving family support and identifying resources as needed
• Education in the form of literature, workshops, etc.
• Self-improvement and self-care are taught and encouraged
• Community members are guided and encouraged to pursue their own solutions

Youth Worker:
The Tseshaht Youth Centre provides youth driven services to Tseshaht youth. The number one priority of the youth centre is to provide a safe and healthy environment for Tseshaht youth. The Centre provides youth with organizational training and a good work ethic through the formation of a Youth Council. When providing activities for youth, the Youth worker consults with outside professionals, traditionally taught Tseshaht people, and uses Tseshaht traditions and protocol when appropriate. The Centre offers youth access to computers, tutors, traditions, arts and crafts, basic cooking skills, peer support and accesses a variety of training programs inside and outside the Tseshaht community.

Social Development:
The Social Assistance program provides a monthly cheque to people who have no other source of income. It can also supplement income to ensure that people do not suffer under undue hardship. This program serves people over the age of 19 with limited exceptions. People living on social assistance are offered assistance through various programs:
• Incentive and Work Opportunities Program
• Child and Youth Services
• Repayable food vouchers, Special Needs, Christmas Bonus
• Special diet and a diet for a Doctor confirmed pregnancy
• One time only payment of essential utilities and work clothing
• Help with moving, under certain conditions only
• Access to Nuu chah nulth nurses, homemakers, and long term care workers

Director Of Education:
The Tseshaht Education Department offers support for students and represents the band at NTC and other education functions. Monies for school supplies, school allowance, limited special clothing monies, and restricted field trip monies are available through this program. The bulk of the education budget is concerned with Occupational Skills Training which prepares Band members returning to the work force. The OST budget covers courses, other than University Level courses, offered by a publicly funded institution. Under this program, full time students are eligible to apply for a small monthly stipend.

t’aat’nee?is Daycare:
We offer part time and full time daycare, preschool, and before/after school for Kindergarten Program. We are a Headstart daycare for ages 2.5 to 5 years old and an Infant & Toddler daycare ages 0-3 years old. The daycares are open during the summer.

t’aat’nee?is Daycare is a fully licensed childcare facility which offers an alternative daycare option on the reserve. The goal of t’aat’nee?is Daycare is to celebrate and incorporate the Nuu chah nulth language, culture, and heritage into an educational program that fills the intellectual, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional needs of the children, and the families of the children they work with, so that the children may reach their greatest potential. T’aat’nee?is staff offer support to parents as their children move out of their daycare and into the School District.

Community Health Care Worker:
This program offers health services to the community. The Community Health Department works with the NTC nurses to keep Tseshaht membership updated on current information and services. This Department offers membership some medical supplies and access to a Loan Cupboard of medical equipment. The Band works with the Non-insured Health Benefits Program at NTC to ensure that band membership have access to permanent medical supplies and equipment not covered by medical. Using a three working day process, membership has access to the Patient Travel program.

Recreation:
The recreation program provides recreation to all age groups in the community. This worker drafts proposals for recreational funding and employment to provide additional services to membership. Activities are planned for children and youth based on their ages. Adults are offered both recreation as well as skills development through education around tourism development and skills. Elders are treated to sit down information sessions as well as band sponsored attendance at the monthly Island Elders lunch series and the annual B. C. Elders Conference. In addition, yearly special events, such as the Christmas party or Aboriginal Day celebrations, are delivered to Tseshaht membership.

Director:
Responsible for the management, reporting, and administration of the financial affairs of the Tseshaht First Nation, managing the day-to-day accounting affairs, and assisting in the development and administration of financial and accounting policies.

Accounts Payable:
Responsible for the processing of all accounts payable for the Tseshaht First Nation including Band Operating, Treaty, Enterprise Companies, Social Housing and Special Project accounts.

Accounts Receivable/Payroll:
Responsible for performing general bookkeeping responsibilities, processing accounts receivable and other accounting duties as assigned. Responsible for the processing of all payroll for the Tseshaht First Nation, including the review and processing of timesheets, preparation of payroll cheques and required remittance, payroll reconciliations, processing of payroll changes, and the completion of related payroll forms and reports.

Public Works:
Responsible for the scheduling, inspection, maintenance and repair of Tseshaht First Nation buildings, equipment, vehicles, roads, bridges, building services (electrical, water, heating, and plumbing), building and equipment safety, and the general administration of the Facility and Property Services Departments.

Secretary/Reception:
Responsible for greeting and directing visitors, receiving and directing all telephone calls, maintaining files, word processing, processing mail, ordering supplies, taking minutes of meetings, and maintaining the main office reception area.

Administrative Assistant:
The person in this position offers support to different departments. While at the reception desk, they greet band members in a friendly nature, both in person and on the phone. This position also prints emergency cheques for community members when the occasion arises.

Housing Capital Projects Officer:
Responsible for the administration of the Tseshaht First Nation Housing Program, and assisting the Director of Finance and Administration and the Housing Committee in the management of the Housing Program.

Lands and Resources

Director:
The Director works with outside agencies and organizations to review proposed developments within Tseshaht territory. The Director looks for potential impacts that may harm our culture and heritage sites, our fisheries resources, and infringements on our Aboriginal rights and interests. In particular, the Director works with development agencies, including forest licensees, and the BC Ministry of Forests, BC Hydro, and BC Energy and Mines to review planned development activities within Tseshaht Traditional Territory. The referral process ensures that proposed developments are thoroughly researched and reviewed with respect to our Aboriginal rights and interests.

The Director also assumes responsibility over membership applications, registration, updating and maintenance of the Tseshaht membership list.

Manager of Fisheries:
Tseshaht have a license to Equis, a extremely rich clam bed, providing both employment and food for community feasts. Tseshaht also hold licenses to oysters, sea urchins, herring eggs, mussels, prawns, halibut, black cod, inside rock cod, and two dive licenses. This Department provides the band with employment during the Somass River fishery, a fishery that allows Band members to harvest sockeye salmon annually during June and July. Tseshaht community members, 18 years and older, may also participate in a commercial salmon gillnet fishery during this time. This department gives Tseshaht a presence down in our homelands, c’ishaa and the Broken Group Islands, and, in this way, protects the Islands from poachers.

Research Department

Director Of Research, Denis St. Claire

Denis will support us with litigation, land claims, and/or aboriginal title, publication of a volume on Tseshaht history, and education.

Director of Special Assignments/Research Assistant, Darrell Ross Sr.

Darrell will aid with issues regarding litigation, land claims, and/or aboriginal title, etc. Also, this Department manages the Treaty process, on behalf of the Tseshaht people, according to the 6 stage process set out by the British Columbia Treaty Commission. They provide Band members access to computers and the internet through the CAP site.
